Anthropic launches Smart Reports in beta for Claude Enterprise

Smart Reports give Claude Enterprise admins AI-generated analysis of team usage, costs, and friction points: with an explicit ban on performance evaluation.

Anthropic has rolled out Smart Reports in beta for Claude Enterprise, giving administrators an AI-generated layer of interpretation on top of raw usage data. Rather than leaving admins to sift through dashboards themselves, Smart Reports analyses what a team is actually doing with Claude, what it costs, where sessions run into friction, and which repeated patterns might be worth packaging as shared prompts or skills.

What Smart Reports actually does

The feature covers four practical areas:

Cost attribution. Reports show which kinds of work a team does with Claude and what each category costs. If you are trying to justify AI investment to leadership, this gives you something concrete to point to.

Friction detection. When the same problem keeps appearing across sessions, the report names it. Often the fix is a connector or a setting an admin can enable in a few minutes. Without something aggregating that signal, those friction points stay invisible.

Skills packaging. If a team keeps reinventing the same workflow, the report identifies the pattern and provides a starting prompt you can package as a shared skill, so the next person does not start from scratch.

Sharing examples. Reports can surface sessions that produced high-quality outputs, a pipeline digest or a batch of account briefs, so other team members can follow the same approach.

The reports are generated on demand. You choose a team, a time range of up to the last 28 days, one or more products (chat, Claude Code, or Claude Cowork), and the focus areas you want analysed. You receive an email when the report is ready, and it also appears under Analytics > Smart reports in the admin dashboard.

The guardrail that matters most

Anthropic has been explicit about one boundary: Smart Reports are not to be used for evaluating individual employee performance or making employment decisions. This is stated directly in the product documentation, not buried in fine print.

The default configuration reflects this. The “Allow attribution to individual users” toggle is off by default, meaning reports are aggregated at team or group level unless an owner actively enables individual attribution. Even then, the prohibition on using reports for performance evaluation stands.

This is a deliberate design choice, and a sensible one. Giving managers a tool that analyses AI usage patterns and then leaving it to them to decide how to apply that data creates obvious risk. Anthropic has drawn the line clearly. The purpose is adoption insight and investment planning, not a new mechanism for scrutinising individual employees.

Who can use it and how to turn it on

Smart Reports is available on Claude Enterprise plans. There are some configurations where it is not available: organisations using customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK), HIPAA configurations, or Access Transparency cannot use it. It is also unavailable for Claude Code for Claude Enterprise organisations that use zero data retention.

To enable it, you need Owner or Primary Owner access. Navigate to Organisation settings > Capabilities, find the Analytics section, and switch on the “Smart reports (beta)” toggle. It is off by default. Once enabled, Primary Owners, Owners, Admins, and custom roles with analytics view access can create and view reports.

During beta, each organisation can run up to 10 reports per month at no additional cost. The limit resets on the first day of each calendar month. If you need more, you can contact your account team or submit a request once the limit is reached.

If your identity provider’s groups do not map cleanly to functional teams, you can pass department and cost centre from your IdP and filter on those instead.

What this means for you

For enterprise admins, Smart Reports removes the manual work of interpreting usage data. The analysis comes to you structured and ready to act on, rather than requiring you to build your own queries or read across multiple dashboards.

For managers and leadership, it provides a defensible basis for decisions about AI investment, whether that is expanding access, enabling new integrations, or identifying where additional training would help teams get more value from Claude.

For teams, the friction detection angle is probably the most immediately useful. If a group keeps hitting the same wall, an admin can see it and fix it quickly, without anyone needing to raise a ticket or articulate the problem themselves.

The explicit prohibition on performance evaluation is worth paying attention to if you are thinking about how to introduce this to your organisation. Being clear with employees upfront about what the reports are and are not used for will matter for trust, and Anthropic has given you the policy language to do that.

Smart Reports fits into a broader pattern of Anthropic deepening its enterprise tooling throughout 2026, layering AI-driven interpretation on top of the raw analytics that Claude Enterprise admins already have access to. As a beta feature it is stable enough for regular use, with Anthropic continuing to refine it based on feedback.
