AI product notes: week of 12 October 2026
A weekly roundup of smaller AI product updates, release-note items, and admin changes worth tracking.
Smaller product updates do not always need a full article, but they can still matter if you own the platform, run the admin console, or build against the API.
Updates
- OpenAI: Codex and ChatGPT Work update context handling: subagents reuse context and cache hit rates improve (17 October 2026). Codex and ChatGPT Work users will get more out of their usage allowance as subagents can now share cached context instead of re-consuming tokens on repeated context, and smarter routing raises cache hit rates automatically.
- Anthropic: Claude cracks the 25-year NIST ECDSA curve seed mystery in under 30 minutes (16 October 2026). Claude autonomously solved a 25-year mystery about the origins of NIST’s ECDSA curve seeds, confirming they came from Unix timestamps, not cryptographic hashing, which should put longstanding backdoor concerns about the widely-used P-256 standard to rest.
- Google: Gemini Skills roll-out begins in the Gemini app, with Drive integration and sharing coming in weeks (16 October 2026). After the Skills framework replaced Gems in early October, the actual in-app rollout is now live and will reach all users by mid-November, admins and power users should plan their custom Skills before the Drive integration arrives, which will let Skills reference files directly.
- Google: Google Meet gets AI-powered ‘next steps’ to automate post-meeting tasks in Workspace (16 October 2026). After every Google Meet call, Gemini can now automatically draft follow-up emails and push action items to Google Tasks on your behalf, removing the manual transcription step that typically delays post-meeting follow-through.
- Anthropic: Anthropic publishes US midterm election policy guidance for Claude (15 October 2026). Developers and enterprises building applications that touch political or civic topics should review Anthropic’s election-period policy to understand what guardrails Claude will apply to election-related content through November.
- OpenAI: ChatGPT Business admins can now manage up to 25 plugins at once in the Admin console (15 October 2026). Large workspace admins no longer need to configure plugins one by one; batch management of 25 at a time significantly reduces the overhead of deploying or disabling plugins across a ChatGPT Business workspace.
- Anthropic: Claude Docs, Slides, and Design are now on by default for all paid plans (15 October 2026). Paid Claude users will now see Docs, Slides, and Design artifact types enabled without needing to manually opt in, enterprise admins should verify whether their org policies need to be updated to control access.
