ChatGPT Slides brings collaborative presentations into ChatGPT Space
OpenAI's ChatGPT Slides lets Pro, Business, and Enterprise users create, co-edit, and export decks to PowerPoint, PDF, Keynote, or Google Slides.
OpenAI began rolling out ChatGPT Slides on 16 October 2026, bringing collaborative presentation-making directly into ChatGPT Space, the shared workspace the company announced at DevDay 2026 on 29 September. If you are on a Pro, Business, or Enterprise plan with Space access, you can now build, refine, co-edit, and present slide decks without leaving ChatGPT.
What ChatGPT Slides actually does
The feature sits inside Space, which is OpenAI’s answer to the shared project workspace. Space brings pages, files, and related work together in one place so a team and ChatGPT can keep building on the same material. Slides extends that idea to presentations.
To get started, go to ChatGPT in Work mode and ask it to create a presentation in Space. From there you can seed the deck in a few different ways: start from a conversation, upload files, paste in an outline, or hand over an existing deck as a style reference so ChatGPT matches your preferred layout and visual tone.
Once a deck exists, you can edit text, images, shapes, and charts directly, or just describe what you want changed and let ChatGPT handle it. You can generate custom images through the AI or upload your own. Speaker notes are included, and you can present directly within ChatGPT rather than jumping to a separate tool.
Collaboration and export
The part most relevant to teams is the real-time co-editing. Colleagues can work on the same deck simultaneously and leave shared comments, much like a standard collaborative document tool. The difference is that the AI is a participant in that workspace rather than a bolt-on assistant.
When the deck is ready, export options depend on which platform you are using:
- Web: export to PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF, or Google Slides
- Desktop app: open directly in PowerPoint or Keynote, provided those applications are installed
One note for Windows desktop app users: if ChatGPT creates a local PowerPoint file rather than a collaborative deck in Space, switch to cloud mode or use ChatGPT on the web instead.
Who can use it, and what the limits are
Slides is available on web and desktop, rolling out to eligible Pro, Business, and Enterprise accounts with Space access. Having a paid subscription alone may not be enough; Space access is the deciding factor. Mobile support is limited for now: you can find, read, and share pages and decks, but creating or editing is not yet available on mobile.
Where this fits in a broader picture
OpenAI introduced Space at DevDay 2026 as a shared environment where teams and AI work on the same material together. Pages (documents) were part of that initial launch; Slides extends the workspace further into territory that was previously the domain of dedicated office software.
The positioning is deliberate. OpenAI is building functionality that overlaps with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, both of which have their own AI-assisted presentation tools. Claude has offered comparable slide-building since September 2025. Google’s Gemini is woven into Slides natively. The distinction OpenAI is pushing is that the AI and the shared workspace are the same thing, rather than an assistant layer on top of a separate file.
It is also worth noting that ChatGPT for PowerPoint became generally available on 6 July 2026, offering a sidebar inside Microsoft PowerPoint itself. ChatGPT Slides in Space is a parallel path: a native collaborative environment rather than an integration into someone else’s application. Depending on how your team works, both routes remain available.
What this means for you
If your team already uses ChatGPT for research, drafting, and planning, the practical benefit here is consolidation. Instead of researching in ChatGPT, drafting notes in ChatGPT, and then rebuilding everything from scratch in a separate presentation tool, you can move from source material to finished deck inside the same workspace.
The style-reference option is particularly useful if your organisation has an established visual identity. Hand over a branded deck and ChatGPT will use it as a template guide, which reduces the back-and-forth of correcting fonts, layouts, and colour choices after the fact.
For teams on Business or Enterprise plans, the real-time co-editing and shared comments mean the AI-assisted editing workflow extends to the whole group, not just the person who started the deck.
The main friction point right now is access. Space access is not automatic on every paid plan, and mobile creation is not yet supported. If you are expecting to hand off a deck for mobile review or light edits on the go, that is a gap worth knowing about before you commit the workflow.
For eligible users, the entry point is straightforward: ask ChatGPT in Work to create a presentation in Space, and go from there.
