AI product notes: week of 19 October 2026
A weekly roundup of smaller AI product updates, release-note items, and admin changes worth tracking.
Smaller product updates do not always need a full article, but they can still matter if you own the platform, run the admin console, or build against the API.
Updates
- Anthropic: Anthropic status: 30-minute Claude service disruption on October 24, 25 (25 October 2026). A 30-minute Claude outage resolved overnight; no action needed, but teams with automated Claude workflows should confirm their retry logic handled the gap correctly.
- Google: Google delays Skills in Workspace rollout: Rapid Release and Scheduled Release timelines both slip (23 October 2026). Workspace admins and developers who built automations around the Skills rollout schedule should hold their migration plans, Google has slipped both the Rapid and Scheduled Release dates without giving new ones.
- Microsoft: Microsoft 365 Copilot Work Insights personalization begins completing its worldwide rollout in late October 2026 (23 October 2026). Copilot will soon use inferred patterns from your Microsoft 365 activity to tailor its replies, admins and users should review the enhancedPersonalizationSetting and Chat History controls against their organisation’s data-governance policies before the rollout completes.
- OpenAI: OpenAI publishes deep dive on scaling online storage for over one billion ChatGPT users (Part II) (23 October 2026). A detailed look at the storage infrastructure underpinning ChatGPT at 1.2 billion weekly users, useful context for teams building on OpenAI’s platform at scale.
- OpenAI: Uber deploys ChatGPT Work to all employees company-wide (23 October 2026). Uber’s company-wide ChatGPT Work rollout is one of the largest disclosed enterprise deployments to date, illustrating the scale at which teams are now standardising on ChatGPT Work.
- Google: Gemini Enterprise admins can now set per-user quota limits to prevent single users from exhausting shared subscription pools (22 October 2026). Enterprise admins can now prevent a single power user from exhausting the shared Gemini query pool for their whole team, avoiding surprise throttling for everyone else without buying additional capacity.
- Google: Google Vault gains filtered exports for Gemini in Workspace conversations (22 October 2026). Legal and compliance teams can now scope Vault exports of Gemini conversations to specific users, date ranges, or terms, reducing the volume of sensitive AI conversation data that has to leave Google’s infrastructure for review.
- Microsoft: Microsoft 365 Insights Agent lets admins explore user feedback on Copilot agents in Copilot Chat (22 October 2026). Admins can now query and share agent feedback directly inside Copilot Chat rather than exporting reports, making it easier to spot patterns in user complaints and decide which agents need improvement or removal.
- OpenAI: Uber deploys ChatGPT Work to all employees in company-wide OpenAI deal (22 October 2026). Uber’s company-wide rollout of ChatGPT Work is a signal that large enterprises are moving from pilots to full deployment, and it gives procurement and IT teams a concrete peer reference for evaluating the same platform.
- Anthropic: Claude Code 2.1.305 adds Linux namespace sandbox support and fixes MCP cloud-session conflicts (21 October 2026). Developers running browser-based or container tools inside Claude Code’s Linux sandbox can now create user namespaces without hitting permission walls, and cloud-session MCP servers will no longer be silently replaced by local config.
- Microsoft: Microsoft announces Volkswagen Group has equipped 330,000+ employees with Microsoft Copilot (21 October 2026). Volkswagen’s 330,000-seat Copilot rollout is now official, giving enterprise buyers a large-scale automotive-industry reference point for M365 Copilot at scale.
- Anthropic: Claude Code 2.1.306 patches cloud-session login false-negatives and misleading prompt-length errors (21 October 2026). Claude Code cloud-session users will no longer see spurious ‘Not logged in’ warnings, and API errors near the context limit will show their real cause instead of triggering an unnecessary compaction.
- Anthropic: Anthropic fixes five Claude Tag Slack bugs and adds standalone Claude Design shutdown notice (20 October 2026). Claude Tag admins on Slack Enterprise Grid should confirm the DM-retry fix has deployed to their instance, and anyone using the standalone Claude Design tool has until 14 December 2026 before it closes.
- Anthropic: Claude Code gains /auto-mode-setup and a ‘person’ decider for mod tool checks (20 October 2026). The ‘person’ decider lets mod authors lock specific tool approvals to a human in the loop, giving enterprise teams a hard gate against fully autonomous execution of sensitive operations.
- Google: Google SQL Modernisation Agent launches in public preview alongside expanded Azure Arc migration (20 October 2026). Database teams running legacy SQL workloads now have an AI-assisted migration agent available directly in their VS Code workflow, with multi-instance Azure Arc migration removing the previous one-at-a-time bottleneck.
- Microsoft: M365 Copilot Connector settings now editable without a support ticket (20 October 2026). Fixing a broken connector mapping no longer requires raising a support ticket and waiting, admins can correct query strings and identity rules themselves, reducing the turnaround from days to minutes.
- Anthropic: Claude Code latest release: auto-mode compaction fix, subagent foreground/background control, and Claude Tag Slack Grid fix (19 October 2026). The auto-mode compaction fix removes a common source of blocked tool calls in long agentic sessions, and the subagent run-mode change gives desktop and VS Code users the same background-agent behaviour the terminal already had.
- Microsoft: Copilot Studio agents to support Microsoft Purview Information Protection sensitivity labels (19 October 2026). Organisations that protect sensitive documents with Purview sensitivity labels have until now been unable to feed those files into Copilot Studio agents; this change removes that blocker while preserving label-level access controls.
- Microsoft: Enhanced Copilot in Viva Engage powered by Engage MCP enters development (19 October 2026). Viva Engage’s Copilot is about to get substantially smarter, if your organisation uses Engage for internal communities, the upcoming update will let employees query and synthesise discussion threads across the whole platform rather than just get a daily digest.
