Updates

• Anthropic: Anthropic AI for Science grant applications close August 2: $50K in Claude credits for rare-disease researchers (1 August 2026). The August 2 deadline makes this immediately actionable for qualifying researchers, and the grant continues Anthropic’s strategy of subsidising mission-aligned science use cases.

• Google: Gemini 3.5 Flash removed from Gemini Enterprise global region on August 4 (1 August 2026). Any Gemini Enterprise deployment relying on 3.5 Flash in the global region will be affected in three days, requiring immediate admin review.

• Google: Google renames Gemini Alpha program to ‘Gemini Beta’: auto note-taking default changes coming September 21 (30 July 2026). The auto-note-taking default flip affects every hosted meeting for Business Standard and Plus plans starting September 21, admins need to review and lock their settings before that date to avoid surprise recording behaviour.

• Microsoft: Microsoft confirms new Copilot entry point coming to Classic Outlook ribbon in August: October 2026 (30 July 2026). IT admins managing Classic Outlook environments need to prepare end-user communications and review Copilot data-handling policies before the forced ribbon addition arrives at scale in October.

• OpenAI: ChatGPT Voice expands to Work and Codex in the desktop app: speak to start or coordinate agentic tasks (29 July 2026). Bridging Voice mode to Codex and Work means developers and knowledge workers can now direct multi-step agentic tasks by speaking rather than typing, lowering the friction for real-world agent orchestration.

• Google: Gemini-powered comment workflows land in Google Docs: summarise, Q&A, and act on collaborator feedback (29 July 2026). For document-heavy teams, AI-driven comment summarisation and action removes a common collaboration bottleneck, and this joins a string of Gemini Workspace integrations that together make the Workspace AI suite meaningfully more capable in Q3 2026.

• Microsoft: Microsoft launches ‘Copilot in 30’ trial offer: 25-seat, 30-day M365 Copilot Business trial available via CSP from August 1 (29 July 2026). The structured trial offer gives SMBs and their IT partners a low-friction path to evaluate Copilot at meaningful scale, relevant for any team currently weighing whether to commit to Copilot Business post the July 1 price increase.

• OpenAI: OpenAI publishes technical deep-dive: how GPT-5.6 fuses frontier intelligence with frontier efficiency (29 July 2026). The scientific computing case studies are concrete evidence of where coding agents measurably accelerate research workflows today, and the architecture post anchors GPT-5.6’s efficiency claims, both are useful reference material for enterprise evaluations.

• Google: Google Cloud Billing adds early anomaly detection for Gemini API and Vertex AI workloads (28 July 2026). Early anomaly alerts for AI workloads let teams catch unexpected Gemini/Vertex spend spikes before month-end bills arrive, reducing the risk of surprise overruns on high-volume agent workloads.

• Google: Google Meet ‘Take notes for me’ to gain visual screenshot capture: admin opt-in ahead of September rollout (28 July 2026). Business Standard and Business Plus admins who have privacy or compliance constraints around screen capture need to proactively disable this before the September 21 default-on rollout.

• Anthropic: MCP 2026-07-28 deprecates Dynamic Client Registration in favour of CIMD (28 July 2026). Developers who implemented OAuth DCR for their MCP servers should plan migration to CIMD within the 12-month window to avoid interoperability issues with new clients and Claude connector tooling.

• Google: Model Armor for Agent Gateway reaches general availability on Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (28 July 2026). GA status means enterprise teams can now rely on Model Armor SLAs when using Agent Gateway, making it a production-ready control layer for compliance-sensitive agentic deployments.

• Anthropic: Claude Code changes /verify and /code-review to manual-only invocation (28 July 2026). Teams running automated Claude Code pipelines that expected implicit verification passes will need to update their scripts or CLAUDE.md instructions to call these commands explicitly.
